Henry was born on 18 June 1850 at Burr Lane, Ikeston, Derbyshire to James THOMASIN (TOMASIN) and Mary LEAVERS. He joined HM Royal Marine Artillery and had risen to the rank of Colour Sergeant, and was stationed at the Royal Marine Artillery Barracks at Eastney, Portsmouth by the time of his marriage. He married Mary Jane COLLIS on 5 October 1882 at Kent Street Chapel, Portsea Island, Hampshire. They had three children between 1883 and 1887. They set up home at 2 Festing Terrace, Eastney, Portsmouth, Hampshire. Henry appears to have left HM Royal Marines, with a Staff Sergeant Major's pension, sometime after that. Between 1891 and 1901 they were living at 10 Eton Road, Portsmouth, Hampshire and he was working as a School Attendance Officer in Portsmouth according to the census records. Henry died on 31 December 1931 at St. Mary's Hospital, Portsmouth, Hampshire of Uraemia and Chronic Nephritis
