Thomas Banton was born in 1831 at Ticknall, Derbyshire to Joseph THOMASIN (TOMASIN) and Elizabeth BANTON. He was christened on 1 May 1831 at Ticknall.

He was living at Anchor Row, Ilkeston, Derbyshire with his father and step-mother Mary LEAVERS at the time of the 1841 census.

He would have appeared to have joined the Army or Royal Marines like his half brother Henry TOMASIN.

Thomas Banton died on 15 May 1860. The 'Ilkeston Pioneer' newspaper reported the death of Sgt. Thomas Barton TOMASIN  on passage from India.
