Elsie May, known as 'Topsy' due to her red hair, was born 2 April 1909 in Ryde, Isle of Wight to Anne Elizabeth BULL and William James WILLIAMS. She married Leslie Hurbert TURNER on 4 January 1932 at Ryde Parish Church, Ryde, Isle of Wight. They set up home at Havenstreet on Isle of Wight where Leslie Hurbert was employed on the railways before moving to live at Hunny Hill, Newport, and then to Portsmouth when Leslie Hurbert was promoted Assistant Station Master. She was widowed on 9 May 1967. Elsie May died 23 May 1995 at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, Portsmouth
